785D
785D Mining Truck
The Cat® 785 model was Caterpillar’s first entry into the mining industry more than three decades ago and has been a proven performer on sites around the world ever since. The 785D carries on that tradition.
It’s engineered for performance, designed for comfort and built to last. Developed specifically for high production mining applications, the 785D keeps material moving at high volume to lower your cost-per-ton. Rugged construction creates a durable machine, while easy maintenance procedures ensure high reliability and long life with low operating costs.
PRODUCTIVITY
- The 785D is powered by the 3512C HD engine, a 12-cylinder, four-stroke design that uses long, effective power strokes for more complete fuel combustion and optimum fuel efficiency.
- The 23% net torque rise provides unequaled lugging force during acceleration, on steep grades and in rough underfoot conditions. Torque rise effectively matches transmission shift points for maximum efficiency and fast cycle times.
- The mechanical drive powertrain and power shift transmission provide unmatched efficiency and control on steep grades, in poor underfoot conditions and on haul roads with high rolling resistance.
- The engine provides additional retarding by running against compression with zero fuel burn on downhill hauls, which increases fuel efficiency.
SAFETY
- Access and egress are safer thanks to the 600-mm-wide (24-in-wide) diagonal stairway, slip-resistant surfaces and hand rails, plus an optional powered access ladder.
- Superior control is delivered by a patented braking system that provides immediate, fade-resistant braking and retarding.
- The 785D is designed for excellent all-around visibility and clear sight lines, enhanced by wide-angle mirrors and the standard Cat MineStar™ Object Detection system, combines radar and camera systems to warn operators about light vehicles or stationary hazards within the immediate vicinity of their machines.
- Dumping operations are safer thanks to a body raised indicator and reverse neutralizer when dumping.
- Toe guards on the front and side platforms provide protection from slipping and also to prevent any tools or loose items falling from the platform when maintenance or service work is being performed.
OPERATOR COMFORT
- Operators enjoy an ergonomic layout, excellent all-around visibility, and controls, levers, switches and gauges that are positioned for ease of use.
- The integral, sound-suppressed ROPS/FOPS cab is resiliently mounted to the mainframe to isolate the operator from sound and vibration for a quiet, secure and comfortable ride.
- The cab has numerous features that enhance comfort and reduce fatigue, such as an air suspension seat, reduced vibration, air conditioning and sound suppression.
SERVICEABILITY
- Time spent on regular maintenance procedures is reduce with easy access to daily service points and major components; ground-level access to tanks, filters, drains and engine shutdown; a maintenance platform that provides access to the engine engine, steering hydraulic tank and battery compartment; and an optional fast-fill service center, which enables high-speed fuel and oil exchange.
- Enhanced serviceability and 500-hour service intervals are designed to increase machine availability and productivity.
- Electric connectors are sealed to lock out dust and moisture, harnesses are braided for protection, and wires are color- coded for easy diagnosis and repair.
- The VIMS onboard diagnostic systems continuously monitor all critical machine functions and components to help locate faults quickly for faster repair.
DURABILITY AND LONG LIFE
- The 785D frame uses a box-section design, incorporating two forgings and 24 castings in high-stress areas with deep penetrating and continuous wrap-around welds to resist damage from twisting loads without adding extra weight. The mild steel frame provides flexibility, durability and resistance to impact loads.
- Wheel Stations offer improved durability, which results in less frequent replacement for higher uptime and less unscheduled maintenance.
- Component life is enhanced thanks to the standard rear-axle continuous filtration feature. Cleaner oil helps promote lubrication that leads to longer life.
- Uptime is improved thanks to planned component replacement intervals that target up to a 20,000 SMU for the engine, plus component commonality with proven 3500 HD engines
- The frame, powertrain, engine and components are built to be rebuilt — delivering multiple lives of like-new performance at a fraction-of-new price.
CAT BODIES
- Cat bodies are the best choice for the 785D. They’re designed to be an integral part of the entire vehicle system, ensuring you achieve maximum chassis life.
- The High Performance (HP) body features a lightweight, simplified and durable design that provides complete front machine coverage and extended overhead protection.
- Available in several sizes, the MSD II body is ideal for mature mines with good operational and maintenance practices. It can be lined or unlined, with a site-specific body designed to maximize performance.
- Intended for tough applications including greenfield sites and contracting mines, the Dual Slope body provides excellent load retention, maintains a low center of gravity with optimum load distribution and reduces shock loading.
- The specialty combination body for coal and coal overburden accommodates light density material while maintaining payload potential.
SUSTAINABILITY
- We’ve designed the 785D with a number of enhancements that lessen its impact on the environment. Features like engine oil renewal systems and continuous rear axle filtration decrease the amount of waste contributed to the environment.
- The engine provides additional retarding by running against compression on downhill hauls. During retarding applications, the engine ECM does not inject fuel into the cylinders for exceptional fuel economy.
- We continue to research alternative energy sources such as biofuels and a liquefied natural gas-supplied Dynamic Gas Blending solution, and we’re implementing power options like electrification and trolley to find new ways to reduce emissions.
- Cat engines are compatible with diesel fuel blended with lower-carbon intensity fuels such as biodiesel FAME (fatty acid methyl ester). They are also compatible with renewable fuels such as HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) and GTL (Gasto-Liquid) alternative fuels that are drop-in replacements for diesel. HVO and GTL are acceptable for use in all Cat engines at any blend level and up to 100%.
- By rebuilding machines and components, the Cat Rebuild and Cat Reman programs preserve raw materials, conserve energy and reduce emissions.
TECHNOLOGY SOLUTIONS
- MineStar Fleet is a fleet monitoring system that can be used to measure, manage and maximize the overall hauling operation.
- The MineStar Detect in-cab Driver Safety System intervenes when it detects fatigue or distraction
- Machine health and condition monitoring solutions enable a proactive approach to maintenance.
